Gardens within a Garden

The grounds of this Weybridge property offer great scope for planting in different aspects and creating distinct areas of interest. Much of the planting need to be replaced because the mature hedging in the front and back gardens had outgrown their places. The brief was to make the most of these newly opened-up spaces.

Design

Two distinctly different seating areas were created.  The first, using the soft contours of the landscape, the ground was shaped to form gentle lawn steps, retained by stainless steel edging.  on both sides of the steps,  a Box hedging parterre is filled with Box Balls, grasses, spring bulbs and tall Geranium sylvaticum. A sculptural bench is positioned in the shade, away from summer heat, backed by a border of Tree Ferns, Euphorbia and Ferns.

The second is a sun-filled terrace, laid with beige Indian sandstone to compliment nearby Yorkstone. Outdoor sofas and a broad border with Prunus serrula, Cornus sanguinea ‘Alba’ and herbaceous perennials create space to relax on a summer day, and an enticing, attractive view front the house.
